How to Moisturize From the Inside Out

If you want to do everything you can to moisturize your skin, don't stop at applying moisturizer and drinking a lot of water. You can make "you are what you eat" your new mantra and choose foods based on how they will help your skin.
To get the most out of your daily meals, try including the following items in your diet:

Omega-3s

Your skin has a natural barrier to help retain moisture, and that barrier contains omega-3 fatty acids. Try adding flax seed, salmon and walnuts to your diet to boost your omega-3 intake and moisturize your skin.
Some research suggests that foods that have vitamin E in addition to omega-3s, such as nuts and whole grains, provide an extra skin booster.

Spinach

Move over, Popeye, because spinach isn't just for making your muscles big. In addition to being chock full of vitamins, such as skin-strengthening vitamin A, spinach has plant compounds that -- according to some research -- help to keep your skin healthy.

Berries

It turns out that berries aren't just tasty and fun to eat; they're also really good for healing your skin. Berries not only contain juice to help you hydrate, but they've also got antioxidants and vitamin C that protect your skin.
The antioxidants and other chemicals in the berries work to help your skin cells stave off damage.
What you put in your mouth can help your skin, but if you want to keep that healthy glow, there are also some foods and beverages you should avoid. Read the next page to learn which items to leave on the grocery store shelf.

Coffee is Good For Your Skin

Are you the kind of person, just like millions around the world, who gets cranky the whole day if you weren't able to drink at least one cup of your favorite coffee? If you are, then you will definitely perk up with these new facts you are about to read.

According to recent studies coffee has several health benefits other than keeping you awake most of the day. It is said that just smelling the coffee upon waking up in the morning is good for the brain. The smell of coffee can help resist succumbing to stress due to deprivation of sleep. Other studies on coffee also show that it can lower risks of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, colon cancer, and even skin cancer. Yes, coffee is good for your skin!

Coffee can keep your skin healthy in a lot of different ways. Other than preventing skin cancer and melanoma-related diseases, coffee has anti-oxidant ingredients that can help:

  • Your skin be free of different radicals that can cause acne, eczema and other skin diseases
  • Improve the flow of micro-cellulars in your skin
  • Break up fatty deposits which cause those ugly cellulites
  • Clear up your skin of acne and other blemishes
  • Act as sunblock and prevent sunburn and wrinkles
  • Absorb and neutralize strong odors such as fish and other smells

How can you get all these skin benefits from coffee? There are two ways. One is to go to a spa that offers coffee treatment, and the other option is to make your own homemade coffee skin care treatment. Here are some suggestions on how to prepare your own coffee skin care products:

Use coffee beans to rub on your damp skin before taking a steam bath or going in a sauna bath. Coffee beans can lightly exfoliate your skin and its rich oils can soften it.
After having your fill of your morning coffee, used coffee grounds can be reused into a variety of skin products:

Coffee grounds mixed with olive oil - Apply this mixture all over your cellulite regions, and wrap these areas using plastic wrap. Leave this on for at least 5 minutes, remove the plastic and shower off. This can help reduce cellulites from your body.

Coffee grounds mixed with egg white - Apply this on your skin as an exfoliant for softer skin.

Coffee grounds mixed with your skin cleanser - This mixture can be your very own coffee exfoliating scrub.

Coffee grounds mixed with cocoa powder and whole milk or cream - This mixture is a great smelling facial mask.

Coffee as an ingredient for skin care products have been used by women from Russia, Hawaii, Bali, and South America for several years now. So why not visit your favorite spa or skin product store and check out their line of coffee skin products? Better yet, why not make your own?

How to Remove a Hickey

Sure, you might have thought getting a hickey was a great idea in the heat of the moment, but you may have changed your mind once you heard that you have to show up to your great Aunt Martha's retirement party picnic the next day. How are you going to show up looking classy instead of embarrassing yourself in front of your family? Read on to find out.

Part 1 of 3: Removing a Hickey

Cool the hickey. Apply an icepack or cold spoon on the hickey as soon as possible after you get it. You can wrap some ice in a towel, use pre-frozen ice packs or put a spoon in the freezer for a few minutes. Gently hold the cold compress to the skin for several minutes (up to 20 minutes, if it doesn’t feel too uncomfortable), remove the compress for several minutes, and then apply it again.
If you're using a spoon, you will need to chill the spoon in the freezer first. You must use a lot of pressure with the spoon but should see results over a few minutes of doing this.

Brush your hickey with a toothbrush. A new toothbrush is preferable, obviously. Many people swear by this technique for getting rid of hickeys. Here is what you'll have to do:
Lightly brush the hickey and the area around it with a stiff-bristled toothbrush or a comb. Doing this stimulates circulation, but pressing too hard can make the hickey worse, so be gentle.
Wait about 15 minutes. The redness and swelling will spread, but will be less obvious after about 15 minutes.
Apply a cold compress, as above.
Repeat if necessary. Depending on the magnitude of your hickey, this method may work or it may just spread the discoloration a bit.

Scrape your skin with a coin. This method is the most painful, but it can give you real results. To do this, first, stretch the skin around the hickey flat by pulling away from the hickey on opposite sides. Then, use the edge of a large coin to scrape the skin. Use the coin like the hickey was butter on toast, and spread outward. You must press quite hard (as hard as you can, but not so that you break the skin, bleed or hurt).
What some people believe this does is push the excess blood, which has escaped from the capillaries, out of the surface skin.
There will be redness from the scraping, but that will go away much faster than a hickey. Even then, a scrape is much less conspicuous than a hickey.

Apply a layer of toothpaste to the hickey. Gently rub some toothpaste onto the hickey and leave it there for a few minutes. Then, when it stops tingling, remove the toothpaste with a warm washcloth. Wait 24 hours and repeat if necessary. You'll see better results if you can do this as soon as possible.

Massage the area. This helps get blood circulation going and will help at the very least to lighten the damage. Gently place two fingers over the affected area and rub them in a circular pattern in one direction. After a minute, switch and rub your fingers in the other direction.

7 Tips to Help Brighten Your Complexion

We all want a healthy, bright complexion. If you have clear skin, it's one less then to feel insecure about. If you have a dull complexion, it's hard to feel good about yourself, but a brighter complexion is attainable. When you look at your diet, your lifestyle and your daily skin care habits, you might find what's causing your dull skin.

Read on to see 7 tips to help brighten your complexion. While you can't change your genetics, a brighter complexion is achievable with a little work.

1. Minimize Alcohol
Alcohol, while healthy for your body in moderation, can dehydrate and dull your skin. It can also increase the blood flow to the skin's surface resulting in a flushed appearance that over time can become permanent. Keep your alcohol intake at a minimum for healthy looking skin.

2. You Are What You Eat
Did your mom ever tell you that when you were growing up? While the common thought that food causes your acne is false, the food you eat does affect the health of your skin.

Try eating more foods high in essential fatty acids, such as fish - especially salmon, walnuts and flax seed. Essential fatty acids are crucial to healthy skin because they help boost collagen and help with cell formation, deep under the skin's surface. This aids in counteracting or slowing down your skin's aging. You can think of it as feeding or nourishing your skin from within. Here are some more healthy skin foods and 5 vitamins for healthy skin.

3. Out With the Old - Slough Off Dry Skin
One skin care tip that I always try and share is that no matter how hard you try, you can not moisturize dead skin. Dead skin is dead, dry and flaky and it's not going to go away with moisturizer. You might notice this on your legs in the winter; as often as you try to moisturize, if you don't exfoliate, your ashy skin will always come back as soon as the moisturizer wears off.

Exfoliation is key to a brighter complexion and you can exfoliate many different ways. You can use a washcloth daily for gently exfoliation, you can use a daily exfoliating cleanser, a exfoliating treatment product or go deeper with a microdermabrasion or skin care brush. If you exfoliate on a regular basis, you are consistently sloughing off the dead skin which is a crucial step to a brighter complexion.

4. Start Your Day With Vitamin C
Sure, a dose of orange juice loaded with Vitamin C is good for keeping colds away, but Vitamin C is a power-packed antioxidant that fights off the signs of aging and is also a known skin brightening agent, too! Definitely something your skin would benefit from.

There are quite a few skin care product lines that have complete Vitamin C sets priced from high end all the way to budget. Our favorite is The Body Shop's Vitamin C line, specifically their Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsules which are little individual daily capsules that you break open and apply to your skin after washing, but before moisturizing. Users can't get enough of them.

There are drugstore lines, as well, that offer Vitamin C lines such as Avalon Organics and Jason Natural.

7 Absolutely Perfect Ways To Treat Dry Skin

There are lots of ways to treat dry skin, something I battle with all winter long. If you have dry, flaky skin too, I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to suffer through the issue until spring comes. By taking care of your body’s largest organ (yep, that’s your skin), you’ll get rid of redness and discomfort while looking your absolute best no matter what Mother Nature throws your way. Try out some of these ways to treat dry skin, then let me know what works best for you – I could always use a new trick too!

ONE: USE A VAPORIZER

You know that machine your mom put in your room when you were a kid with a cold? Well, it’s one of the easiest and best ways to treat dry skin. Simply plug it in and turn it on when you go to bed and it’ll keep the air in your room moist, which is great news for dry skin. Plus, it’ll clear up congestion if you have that too. Just remember to clean and fill the reservoir often to keep mold from growing and flying around the air in your bedroom.

TWO: LOWER THE TEMPERATURE IN YOUR SHOWER

Sure a scalding shower feels great when the temperature outside dips, but you aren’t doing your skin any favors by taking one night after night. All that hot water running over your skin sucks the moisture right out of it, leaving you with dry, flaky skin. I’m certainly not suggesting a cold shower when it’s freezing outside, but a lukewarm one is ideal for dry skin. You’ll still feel warm in there, but you’ll get out without bright red skin, which is a pretty good indication that you had the water too hot.

THREE: FRAGRANCE AND CHEMICAL FREE SKIN PRODUCTS

I’m a fan of soap that smells clean, but if you prefer fruity or flowery types, you may be making your dry skin worse. The chemicals that give those products their scent can be very harsh on skin. It’s a better idea to seek out natural soaps, exfoliating scrubs, facial cleanser and lotion. They’ll do the job of moisturizing, but won’t inundate you with ingredients that will dry out your skin.

FOUR: TRY OLIVE OIL

It’s for more than cooking! Olive oil is a great natural moisturizer that works wonders all over your body. Gently rub some into your elbows, face, knees, the bottoms of your feet and anywhere else on your body that’s dry. Do this before you shower, or rub it in really good, topped with lotion before you get dressed in the morning. Just be sure you don’t use too much or you’ll wind up with oil stains on your clothes and furniture.

2. Use Face Masks:

There are different kinds of face masks you could use in order to get rid of blackheads on your nose area. The best option is the clay mask. Take two tablespoons of clay, some water and lemon juice. Mix all the ingredients well and apply all over the face. Let it dry for the next 15 minutes after which you can wash it off with cold water. Use a soft towel and pat your skin dry.

3. Change Your Pillow Cover:

By changing your pillow cover, we mean you need to change it every week. This will stop dirt from accumulating on your skin and get rid of blackheads naturally. If it’s impossible to change the case, don’t worry. Take a clean piece of cloth and place it on top of your pillow every day. It would be best if you used a small clean towel. They always do wonders. They keep your skin soft and supple while preventing skin problems like blackheads.

4. Use Toothpaste:

Many of you would be surprised by reading this, but toothpaste is one of the effective home remedies for blackheads on nose. It can actually help you get rid of blackheads permanently. All you have to do is take some of it and apply over the affected area. Let it stay for 10 minutes and then wash it off gently with cold water. Not only does toothpaste serve as an amazing home remedy for blackheads, but also for pimples. So, if you happen to have any of these skin issues, consider toothpaste as your ultimate remedy.

5. Steam It Out:

A popular and equally effective method for bidding farewell to blackheads is by using the steam treatment. The heat that comes along with the steam will open up the pores of your skin and get rid of blackheads effectively. Make sure you use this treatment for ten minutes. Once you are done with that, take a dry and clean towel, and pat your face dry. If you use this trick on a regular basis, you should be able to get rid of blackheads within a week or so.

Tips to banish large pores

Large pores on the face are common problem of women. Use ice cubes, cleansers containing ingredients like geranium, chamomile and witch hazel to lessen the appearance of the pores.

Celebrity make-up artist and skincare expert Caroline Frazer helps to banish beauty myths about pesky enlarged pores, reportsfemalefirst.co.uk.

"Products or DIY (do it yourself) remedies such as an ice cube used on the face can help lessen the appearance of open or enlarged pores but only for a very short while - enlarged pores won't disappear or shrink overnight. However, there are things you can do to make them look less visible," said Frazer.

Here are the tips one can follow:

Most people who have larger pores have greasier skin. Look out for cleansers that will help de-clog the pores which contain ingredients such as geranium, chamomile and witch hazel to clarify and refresh skin and help visibly reduce the size of pores.

This helps reduce the dead skin cells which can get stuck in the pores. It will also help lessen the oil on the skin, which can make the pores look bigger.

One can also try pore strips to help unblock the hard to shift areas on the nose etc.

Exfoliation, using mask and staying hydrated also help.

Exfoliating on a regular basis will definitely give the appearance of shrinking pores. If one is routinely getting off the dead skin cells, which get clogged in the pores, the pores will avoid getting stretched out daily. If one wants to splurge, try a sonic face brush to help with the exfoliating.

Anti-tanning treatments for summer

In summer, many people complain about tanning but it's not difficult to get back your original skin colour.

ASPIRIN FACIAL MASK: AGE AND ACNE AWAY!

Aspirin is much more than just a pain killer. When they say that this little white pill is all around, apparently they really do mean all around.

Instead of using water to help the medicine go down, why not a take only couple drops (as well as some other stuff) and make yourself an aspirin facial mask that will help take the age and acne away? Surprisingly, it is one of the best facial masks that you can make right at home.

WHAT TO DO:
First of all, you want to mix the water, jojoba oil and the honey all together in a microwaveable bowl. Pop it in for a good 5-10 seconds. It really depends on how hot and how fast your microwave gets hot. Anyway, you want it to be nice warm, and smooth.

While that’s in the microwave, you can take the 4 Aspirin pill and crush them till you have powder. The back of a spoon should suffice. But if you really want it fine, use a fork.

Take your powdered aspiring and add it to the mix.

Keep stirring until you have a paste like substance.

Apply evenly on your face (must be clean and dry!) and let it sit for a good 10-15 minutes.

Rinse off with cold water (this helps close the pores and tighten the skin) and pat dry (Always PAT DRY!).

TIP: For spot treatments or an entire aspirin facial mask, follow up with some moisturizer. Wanna go homemade all the way? This is an easy one. Just pick a leaf off your Aloe Vera plant and smear the gel all over your face. You can leave it on the whole night if you like so that your skin can really absorb all the good stuff this succulent plant has to offer.

5 Skin Care Products to Avoid

Editor's Note: Beauty blogger and media personality Amour Genesis is classy, smart and well-informed! We're excited to have her join our team of SBC Correspondents.

With so many skin care options on the market it’s easy to invest in products proven to combat acne, oily-skin, fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin, eczema, and many other problematic skin issues.

However, some of the ingredients found in our skin care products are actually toxic chemicals that may be hazardous to our health and the environment.

Even worse, many of the products that we use only include a small amount of these toxic chemicals, when you factor in daily use, multiple product usage it’s no surprise that our skin may become adversely affected overtime.

5. Artificial Fragrances
Many women prefer scented products, however, studies suggest that one artificial fragrance can contain hundreds of synthetic chemicals primarily made from petroleum and coal. Also, companies are not required to tell you what these chemicals are.
Fragrances are considered to be one of the top 5 known allergens and are known to cause asthma and even trigger asthma attacks. Fragrances are also a main concern for hormone and reproductive dysfunction, cancer, headaches, dizziness, skin disorders, asthma and other allergies.

4. Parabens

Although, they’re ubiquitous in skincare, preserve other ingredients, and extend the shelf life of many products, these antimicrobial chemicals are known to have hormone-disrupting effects and have been found in biopsies from breast tumors.

Statement from the Food and Drug Administration: “FDA believes that at the present time there is no reason for consumers to be concerned about the use of cosmetics containing parabens. However, the agency will continue to evaluate new data in this area.”

3. 1,4-Dioxane

This chemical is common in skin and personal care products, it’s also an intentionally used ingredient in dry cleaning products, automobile coolants, and lacquers.

Common ethoxylated compounds include sodium laureth sulfate and polyethylene glycol (often listed as PEG). To avoid it, skip any product with the following ingredients: myreth, oleth, laureth, ceteareth (or any other -eth), PEG, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, polyoxyethylene, or oxynol.

2. Chemical Sunscreens

Two of the most popular chemical sunscreens found in skin care products include, oxybenzone and octylmethoxycinnamate.

These chemicals have been shown to disrupt endocrine activity. Studies show that titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are safer sunscreen alternatives. In the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) guide to safe sunscreens, they found “more than 75% of the sunscreens contained toxic chemicals that can increase your risk of cancer and other health issues.”

Dr. Amy's 7 Habits for Healthy Skin

Wondering what you can do to nurture vibrant, healthy skin from the inside out? Tackle stress! Make Dr. Amy's seven habits -- which are the heart and soul of her book, The Mind-Beauty Connection -- part of your life. Then, watch every inch of you -- but especially your face -- start to look younger, less stressed, more alive. Each of these tips for healthy skin chips away at the nonstop pressure and tension that can age you 6 years or more.

1. Practice Deep Breathing

Shift your body's balance of oxygen versus carbon dioxide in favor of energizing, stress-squashing oxygen by doing slow, controlled breathing exercises. Practice deep breathing.

How often? Aim for twice a day.
Why do it? When you focus on your breathing, you're not focusing on anything else (your to-do list or the late babysitter). That mental shift helps remove stressors, which can cause healthy skin to breakout, bringing you to a deeper level of consciousness, a place where you can put things into perspective.

2. Get Active

One of the top tips for healthy skin, a healthy body and a clear mind is exercise. By putting your body in motion for 30 minutes or more each day, you can release the repressed anxiety trapped inside and relax more fully each day.

How often? Do something -- anything -- every day, because exercise only tames stress for a maximum of 24 hours. So to reap the most benefits, you need to do it daily. If you prefer, tuck 10-minute pockets of activity into your day -- at lunch, after dinner, right after you get up and the house is still quiet. Find ways to sneak fitness into your schedule.
Why do it? Staying active boosts circulation, which delivers more nutrients to cells and skin. It also increases lung capacity, so you can take in more oxygen; lifts your spirits and sense of well-being; and fights age-related diseases. And, for many, it's the ultimate stress reducer.
3. Beat the Foods That Beat You

One of the best tips for how to look younger involves eating a well-balanced diet. To eat for healthy skin and a healthy body, try to reduce the allure of sugary, fatty foods by eating more lean protein: fish, eggs, poultry, low-fat dairy foods, and even walnuts. Use this list of good-for-your-skin foods that can help lower stress and fight wrinkles, too. Also, try to be more aware of what you reach for -- and how much you consume -- when you're stressed. Get some pointers on mindful eating.

How often? All day, but especially early on -- morning protein helps curb afternoon cravings.
Why do it? Protein is key to avoiding mood swings and energy dips. It helps you maintain a healthy blood sugar balance, which in turn keeps certain hormones (including insulin) in check. Bumping up your protein intake also gives you more energy and fights hunger pangs, which can play games with your moods.
4. Focus on the Good Things

Pick up a notebook you particularly like, and at the end of each day, make a list of things for which you are truly grateful. Or write down three things that went well, and why.

How often? Nightly, as part of your winding-down routine.
Why do it? Keeping a journal that records the good things in life helps shift your focus to what you're doing right, and that can put the brakes on the stressful negative chatter that often goes on in your head.
5. Stretch Out Your Sleep

When it comes to healthy skin, a clear mind and a healthy body, there’s no substitute for a good night’s sleep. Make it a goal to sleep as many hours as you need to feel alive and productive the next day -- all day.

How often? Every night.
Why do it? Sleep is free cosmetic medicine, pure and simple. When you ask Dr. Amy what single thing makes the biggest improvement in how a stressed-out person looks, she says, "Sleep." Nothing exacerbates stress and etches in lines like exhaustion.

The Complete Skin Cancer Detection Guide

In a sense, you are your own dermatologist. "Early detection is difficult with any other organ in the body, but you can spot skin cancer yourself," says Adnan Nasir, M.D., a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of North Carolina.

But to do that, you’ll have to open your eyes and look. Here’s how:

Mark Your Calendar
"A monthly self-check that takes just 10 minutes could save your life," says William Heimer, M. D., a dermatologist in San Diego and educational spokesman for the Skin Cancer Foundation. Start at your scalp and work all the way down to your feet. Use a blow dryer to move hair away from your scalp, and a handheld mirror for hard-to-see spots in places like your back. (For a step-by-step guide, see skincancer.org/self-examination.) "You're looking for anything that is new, different, or changing," says Dr. Heimer. "New moles develop until about age 30, but it's critical you spot anything that forms after that."

Document in Digital
"Sometimes a mole looks like it's changing, but people second-guess themselves and don't have it checked," says Dr. Heimer, who recommends taking digital photos and saving them on your computer. To make sure you have a good shot, don't use a flash (it'll distort the image), and focus as close to the mole as possible. "If the light level is too low, use a flashlight or some other external light source," says Dr. Nasir. Then label the photos with the date and location on the body. "Check your moles against the photos every month or two, and if they're changing, see your doctor," says Dr. Nasir.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads

When we think of men’s acne, we usually think of those red, disgusting bumps that pop up at the worst times. We don’t usually think of blackheads, which are those pesky black bumps that show up on your face, nose, back and other body parts. Blackheads are a common type of men’s acne that usually affects guys with oily skin. Luckily, they respond just as well to traditional men’s acne remedies. Before we talk about how to get rid of blackheads and manage oily skin, it helps to have a better understanding of what blackheads are.

What Are Blackheads?

Like we mentioned earlier, blackheads are a form of men’s acne. They get their name from their color; when your pores get clogged from debris such as dead skin cells and oil, a plug forms. If this plug leaves a large enough opening for air to get in, melanin (the pigment that gives skin and hair its color) within the pore oxidizes and turns the plug black. The most common spot for blackheads to form is the nose, which tends to be the oiliest spot of the face. Although nose blackheads are a nuisance, they aren’t as unflattering as other types of men’s acne like whiteheads.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads

To get rid of blackheads, you need an effective men’s acne skincare routine to remove dead skin cells and other debris that can clear your pores. Try the following tips to get rid of blackheads and manage oily skin better.

1. Wash your face with a men’s face wash with salicylic acid. A lot of us guys don’t know the first thing about men’s skin care. We think we can get away with using just some soap and water to control oily skin and get rid of blackheads. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. You’re better off using a men’s daily face washwith dermatologist-recommended ingredients to control oily skin and remove nose blackheads. Unlike soap and water, a men’s face wash won’t dry out your skin, which can cause irritation and even contribute to nose blackheads. Following this up with a men’s face lotion offers some of the best protection and treatment against nose blackheads and other forms of men’s acne.

2. Always have your men’s acne products handy. Nose blackheads can form anywhere anytime — when you’re at home, at work or on vacation. Just because you’re away from home doesn’t mean you should go easy on your men’s acne regimen. Keep some men’s acne pads in the car or at your office desk so you have them handy whenever a nose blackhead forms. Having a men’s acne cream ormen’s acne lotion in your usual travel bag doesn’t hurt either.

3. Use non-comedogenic men’s skincare products. Non-comedogenic skincare products for men are scientifically developed to not clog pores. Comedogenic skincare products for men, on the other hand, have been shown to contribute to clogged pores and men’s acne breakouts. Always read the labels of men skincare products like men’s face lotions and men’s body lotions to make sure they won’t affect your skin negatively.

Make Your Own Chemical-free Cleanser and Moisturizer for Healthy Skin

The moment my skin became rejuvenated after trying this I simply wanted to share it with as many as I could. Everyone deserves to have beautiful skin and I hope that this helps put you on your journey to it.
The results were so simple yet amazing. I love when simplicity works wonders and this has been a miracle for me. Man, this sounds like a religious infomercial haha, but seriously I speak no lies.
Using chemical-induced products strips your face of oils, thus causing an overproduction of oil or even dryness. Just because the label on your commercial product claims to “eliminate pimples,” “for sensitive skin,” and “reduce further production of pimples,” does not mean it’s true. That lovely scent on your product most likely comes from fragrance which is known to be a skin irritant. All these chemicals dry out and irritate your skin leaving it tight and dry. Sometimes when your skin becomes dry, it may produce more oils thus leaving your skin oily or unbalanced. If products leave your face dry, you may turn to lotions that contain even more chemicals. GAH. Never ending cycle! I definitely fell victim.
Two oils to become acquainted with: olive oil and castor oil. These oils help balance the natural production of oil on your face since they do not strip your face of anything (except dirt and clogged pores!).
You may be thinking, why would I want to put oil on my already oily and pimple-y face?! Sounds like a nightmare to some, eh? Well these oils dissolve the oils that are naturally produced on your skin. They wash away the impurities on your skin, clear your pores, and leave your skin feeling moisturized and happy.
You’ll need to experiment with the oil ratios to find the right one for your beautiful skin. My skin tends to be on the normal/dry side, so I used a 1/4 ratio of castor to 3/4 olive. When you first start off, experiment with ratios in small amounts so nothing goes to waste. I’d recommend a higher olive oil ratio for drier and normal skin, and adding a bit more castor if you tend to be more on the oily side. Start with a small amount of castor oil and increase in small increments from there on as needed. Combine your oil mixture in a small, clean container.

Have Firmer Skin Forever

Anti-aging

"I have thus far refused to get any Botox or plastic surgery," writes Tina Fey in her autobiography,Bossypants. "Although I do wear a clear elastic chin strap that I hook around my ears and pin under my day wig."
If only it were that easy. Science has delivered plenty of breakthrough treatments to battle early signs of aging, such as wrinkles and brown spots. But keeping skin firm and toned is a whole different challenge. "Most women love the way their faces look when they're 30, because they've lost a bit of roundness and have a little more contouring," says Los Angeles dermatologist Karyn Grossman, MD. "Then comes the tricky part—how to keep it all from going south."

Prevention
The most important step in preventing aging is to stimulate your genes to keep making collagen and slow its breakdown. Collagen starts to deteriorate in your 30s, along with elastin—the fibers that give young skin its resilience and bounce. At the same time, the support structures of the face, including muscles and bone, begin to atrophy ever so slowly. Certain areas lose their plumpness faster than others. "The reason we sag is in large part due to a loss of volume," says New York City dermatologist Heidi Waldorf, MD.
To counteract these effects without surgery, dermatologists offer a whole new bag of tricks. Yet there are plenty of easy and effective things you can do at home to defy gravity, at a fraction of the cost.

4 ANTI-AGING TIPS FOR MEN WHO WANT TO STAY HEALTHY AND LOOK GREAT

Men who have young and healthy skin probably don’t give much thought to looking after it. It looks great in the mirror so why bother huh ? Well, this is the time when you should be laying the groundwork and getting into the habit of caring for your skin. Most people, men especially, start thinking about this when it’s too late. The truth is that when the fine lines and age spots are starting to appear it’s almost too late.

The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune on products to keep your skin healthy and young looking. They might help as natural aging occurs but the foundation to healthy skin is making sure your lifestyle is right.

What does that mean ? Well, here are 4 things you should think about doing as soon as you finish reading this article. Not all at once though

1. Give The Death Stick The Flick

Aging of the body and skin is greatly increased when you smoke tobacco. Smoking has many serious effects inside the body and ultimately on our surface layer – the skin.

For instance, when smoke comes in contact with the skin it can cause biochemical alterations to the structure of the skin. It is thought to destroy normal healthy skin by damaging the collagen and elastin proteins that can be found in the deeper dermal layers. These are responsible for the elasticity and pliability of the skin tissue.

Men who smoke are more likely to get wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Why ? It’s because of the nicotine in cigarette tobacco. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels and deprives oxygen and nutrient distribution, which slows cellular production and growth. If you want healthy and less prematurely aged skin, you should stop smoking now.

Check out what happens to you when you stop smoking here (infographic)

2. Get Your Sweat On

Doing regular exercise can maintain the body’s strength, stamina, posture and keep the skin in good condition. Conversely a lack of exercise or a sedentary lifestyle can encourage the body to slow down and trigger the onset of the aging process.

Exercise gets the blood flowing which gets nutrients to the places it needs to be. As we age, the extremities of the body like the feet and hands may not get the nutrients they need leading to problems.

Sweating during an exercise routine can release toxins from the body. It also encourages natural sebum oil to be released. Sebum is the body’s natural moisturizer.
